Albuquerque Police Department

In December of 2003, I retired from the Albuquerque Police Department. In May of 2004, I returned to work for the Police Department and was assigned to the traffic division. Lt. Henz contacted me about the TraCS program and asked me if I would be interested in learning more about it. In June of 2004, I started going to the STRCC meetings in Santa Fe where I met most of the people that are still involved in the TraCS program to this day. It has been a terrific learning experience for me and I have enjoyed watching the TraCS program evolve from the vague concept it started out as, all the way to the finished product we now have.

It was not any easy road. We had to overcome many obstacles from equipment and installation problems to the general apathy of the officers involved. It took a long time for the officers to accept the TraCS program and for them to believe that it would really work. While it was not easy, hard work and perseverance finally paid off and I can honestly say that the officers who are using TraCS have become so dependent on it that where once they complained about having TraCS they now complain when the TraCS program is not available to them.

I look forward to rolling out TraCS for the entire Albuquerque Police Department. I firmly believe in the program and the rewards it offers to each and every officer that uses it.
